Photograph of the Month: January 2012

A brief visit to the Cairngorms yielded some nice wintery pictures.  The weather was bitterly cold, but the low Sun extended the 'Golden Hour' to be several hours - perfect for landscape photography.

The first photograph shows Corgarff Castle surrounded by a Sun Dog (or Parhelion).  A very tricky shot to get right due to the backlighting of the castle.

My favourite photo this month is of the castle itself.  The original raw image is nice enough, but after a bit of processing it became clear that it would work well as a gritty monochrome image.
